Still reeling from the death of my dear friend Emmanuel Farhi. Emmanuel had a tender and compassionate heart; he saw the mystery in things & sought out their poetry. He was a true feminist (a testament to his amazing mother). May his memory be a blessing to us all.

- I’m admitting to tears right now. My first year of the PhD, Michael Kremer blew my world open with the idea that we could do rigorous development work in the field to test creative ideas. He, Abhijit, & Esther have inspired & mentored me and so many others-CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!BREAKING NEWS: The 2019 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel has been awarded to Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer “for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.” #NobelPrize
- This moves me back to when the Iranian revolution had just happened and my father managed to get all our family, including my baby sister and me, age 4, to safety, to Spain and then to Canada, with nothing but our suitcases…1/2
- How powerful and moving to see men, in Iran and now Afghanistan, standing up for their sisters, their friends, their partners in this enterprise of life ✨✨✨Incredible scenes in Afghanistan today as male students walk out of their university exam in protest against Taliban’s decision to BAN women & girls from university. The time is now for men across the country to rise and stand in solidarity!

- Replying to @betsylevyp @rbkhoury and @economeagerThis pushback against attempting to set boundaries may be the main reason why so many women in our profession decide to coauthor with other women (rather than the alternative reason given, that women coauthoring with each other get more credit than if they coauthor with men)
- Fantastic thread, especially for those of us who weren’t really exposed to academia before grad school.Like any profession, economics has a hidden curriculum—for how to succeed (plus how to help others succeed). @marcfbellemare's new book pulls back the curtain. A thread on some of my favorite advice and insights from the book. mitpress.mit.edu/books/doing-ec…

- Replying to @profnavaashrafWhat gratitude we as the daughters have to these brave fathers who lost so much and sacrificed so we could be safe in a scary world 2/2
- Replying to @seema_econ and @diva_dharWhen I was graduating from Stanford, a fellow Iranian grad’s dad asked what my plans are. I said I hoped to get a PhD. He said “what fool is going to marry a woman with a PhD? I’ve already told my daughter to stop at a master’s”. I told him I only needed one fool
