If you’re looking for a gift for a trainee or new teacher, then you could give them a copy of my little @sagepub book ‘Thriving in Your First Years of Teaching.’

Friends and colleagues at work have been so lovely today.
It’s been so overwhelming but I’m proud to say that i’ll be the first person of colour and hijabi Deputy Headteacher at my school. #10%braver
Thank you @mshmalik_1 @MsBGriffiths @AnishaMiah_ @B_Legarda @NBentleyTweets
Last week, we celebrated @WorldHijabDay at work with the students.
I faced islamaphobia at school where other children would pull my hijab down, call me names and tell me to go back to where I came from (I was born here). It all. made me feel like I didn’t belong.
I’m striking today because I love being a teacher and love how we have the privilege of changing lives of the young people. I’ve been teaching since 2009 and it’s never been as bad as this. We can’t do the job we love without the funding & with current pay and conditions.@NEUnion
"So you’ve got to find the tools within yourself to feel visible, and to be heard, and to use your voice." This is what I will tell myself and others when that inner critic rages. @MichelleObama#WatchBecoming#Iambecoming
I have found using Expanded Sentences helpful in supporting students to contextualise and develop their kernel sentences.
The Writing Revolution continues to enhance my writing pedagogical practice! @LitdriveUK@Team_English1
How beautiful is this? I can’t believe it’s real. 🥰😍 Thank you @CharteredColl @AlisonMPeacock and @Ethical_Leader for supporting my Fellowship application. ♥️ #Fellow#FCCT
As I near the end the of my role as Maternity Cover Deputy Headteacher, I’m l reflecting on what I’ve learned and achieved.
I’ve led on Curriculum, Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development.
It’s been challenging but really rewarding. 🧵
So I’m currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns with Year 11s and they seem to be really enjoying it! I saw one student reading it while walking to her next lesson and a couple others won’t stop asking me questions about it outside of class. Just perfect. ❤️
Let us Muslim women define ourselves rather than trying to define us in the way that suits your own narrative. We do not fit in to your boxes and even if I did, I’m claustrophobic.
