Proud to endorse @AndrewYang for president! Dr. Martin Luther King introduced guaranteed income to eradicate poverty & Yang’s Freedom Dividend will provide financial security to everyone. We need a democrat to beat Trump & start a movement based on new ideas! #YangGang #MATH

What we heard on the tape disqualifies Nury Martinez, Kevin de Leon, and Gil Cedillo from service on the LA City Council. They have forfeited their leadership.

People I have called colleagues, allies, and even friends, violated the public trust in our council. Nury Martinez, Kevin de Leon, Gil Cedillo, and Ron Herrera’s behavior is inexcusable and potentially illegal.

Every day that Nury, Gil and Kevin delay their resignations is a another day Los Angeles can’t move forward. We need them to do the right thing. NOW.

This week, I will officially submit a motion to name the intersection of #Crenshaw and #Slauson as "Nipsey Hussle Square". #NipseyHussle

Congratulating & welcoming Nithya Raman to the Los Angeles City Council. As a lifelong organizer, I appreciate how @nithyavraman energized & inspired everyday people to mobilize around progressive issues. I look forward to working with you to make LA a more fair & equitable City.

Their apologies feel hollow and too casual in contrast to the words they brazenly uttered behind closed doors. We are not elected to mock children, to promote divisiveness between Black and Brown communities, or to negate years of hard-won unity in attempts to conspire for power.

Some people are ready to excuse CM de Leon’s behavior. I am not.

I join the call in wrapping our arms around Mike Bonin and his family, the Black community, the Brown community, and those whose work they attempted to diminish.

As someone who serves a densely populated Black AND Brown district, I know there is more that ties us together than comes between us. And I can recognize when politicking tries to sever our bonds.

Sharing my perspective on @unrigla’s thread: For months, I questioned why I couldn’t get through to my colleagues during the redistricting process. It seemed overtly racist to me to deny the only Black district in LA of any economic assets.

Here’s part 3 of CM Harris-Dawson’s speech on Expo Park/USC last week.

EXCLUSIVE: LA City Councilmember Mike Bonin says he does not believe the council should meet Friday if members Gil Cedillo and Kevin de Leon have not resigned after leaked, racist conversation. 'I think it's impossible for us to do anything with them still part of the council."

Gil and Kevin follow Nury’s lead. We’re waiting.
This was the right thing to do

Today @mikeboninla @cd4losangeles and I co-introduced motions calling for the removal of Nury Martinez, Kevin de Leon, and Gil Cedillo from their respective committees. They could make these motions unnecessary by doing the right thing and resigning.
