Tonight we've written to Gavin Williamson to ask him to urgently clarify why he's recommended that primary schools in Hackney reopen next week, despite other areas where they will stay closed having far lower case rates. So many concerned by this today. news.hackney.gov.uk/explain-decisiβ¦

- To repeat, welcome the coverage & interest, but we aren't 'banning cars'. All streets remain open for access to those who need to drive -π΅, π,π, π, π,π,π, & π. What we're proud to be doing in this plan is clearly prioritising people over private cars -πΆββοΈ,πΆββοΈ, π΄,π©βπ¦Ό, &π΄ββοΈ.
- All this will be cleaned up by our fab parks & green spaces team, they're #keyworkers who've been out day in day out to keep parks open. Leaving crap behind, isnt the way you thank them & is completely unacceptable. Don't just #ClapForOurCarers treat them & our parks with respect
- Have been out with response team from @MPSHackney since 2:30pm. Deployed from Stoke Newington & already seen some interesting incidents across Clapton and London Fields. Met some great residents & officers, lots of good conversations about Hackney & real passion for policing.
- Anyone seeing these videos tonight will be as shocked & horrified as I am by this attack on two Hackney police officers. My thoughts are with both officers & praise their bravery when faced with this situation. Our police are here to protect us & scenes like this are unacceptableThis is truly despicable & society should never accept such behaviour - we are here to protect you! The officers are safe, but clearly shaken & incredibly brave too. Arrests will be made... this must stop. BCU Cmdr Marcus Barnett
- Walking down Seven Sisters having been at Wick Road, we can't fix this road quick enough. Alienating six lane motorways that cut communities in half have no place in London. What we need is a narrower road, proper green infrastructure & real walking & cycling friendly routesπΆββοΈπ΄ββοΈ
- Decent message, but pollution doesn't just 'find its way into the River Lee (or Lea)', it is dumped, leeches & ends up there because of deliberate actions, poor infrastructure & a failure of regulation & investment from @EnvAgency & others. They can & must do better.Unfortunately, pollution finds its way into the River Lee which can cause health issues to anyone who enters it. Please keep out of the water and stay happy and healthy this spring .
- Really moving interview with @jowhiley on @AndrewMarr9 today, totally right about how those with learning disabilities have been treated through the pandemic. Glad we have started to do dedicated vaccination events in Hackney to support those with learning disabilities. In case you missed it. I spoke to @AndrewMarr9 this morning before he spoke to @MattHancock Thanks to all CCGs who are now taking it upon themselves to prioritise LD people for the vaccine ππ
- One part of the debate around LTNs & creating livable streets I find really odd is the sort of 'Hackney birther' argument, that says newcomers are imposing them on longstanding residents. Reality is 1st LTNs were created in Hackney by local people in 1970s before I was even born.
- I won't retweet the offensive & criminal letter received by @jonburkeUK today, suffice to say it is disgusting, completely unacceptable and chimes with the issues I raised earlier in the week. Those in public life whether MPs or cllrs should not be subject to this type of abuse.
- Today I wrote to Tim Martin & Wetherspoons demanding they remove these shambolic anti-lockdown posters. Totally inappropriate given number of deaths we're seeing locally & pressure on our health services. Staff at Baxter's Court are grt & pubs are hurting, but this is still wrong
- If you create people friendly streets, shockingly people come to use them. - Devastated to hear Rabbi Pinter lost his fight with this terrible disease. His ldrship not just in the past couple of weeks, but over many yrs did so much for Hackney & Charedi community. He served as a Lab Cllr & ldr of Yesodey Hatorah Girls Sch. Thoughts with his family tonightThoughts with Rabbi Pinter, his family and friends tonight. Have privately been in touch & just want to say how much we all appreciate his work during this crisis, I hope he makes a full recovery.
