What a week! Today we collected 20,000 pre-paid Farmfoods cards with another 12,000+ to come - they will be posted out to all families in @GlasgowCC in receipt of clothing grants next week to help at this difficult time
Oh dear @joswinson how wrong you are - I agree early intervention is crucial but @GovanHighSchool is increasingly more successful - raising aspirations - 23.68% left school to higher education and 13.16% left school to go to university @bbcquestiontime
‘Five or six miles down the road, in Glasgow, Govan, it’s 4%...’
@joswinson says ‘early intervention’ is critical to get more people from disadvantaged backgrounds into university. #bbcqt
Well done @St_Rochs over 40% of school leavers going to higher education with over 80% of young people living in 20% most deprived postcodes and over 97% positive destinations - brilliant!!
Hot off the press - @GlasgowCC schools record their highest ever positive destinations - out of 4,346 school leaver 94.6% went to a positive destination #soproud
HM Inspectors from @EducationScot have praised @GlasgowCC for making excellent progress in improving learning, raising attainment & closing the poverty-related attainment gap ow.ly/UR6V30nZJ0t#WeAreES
Sorry @JShuttleworth92 but not sure that I can agree with your very simplistic assertion that @thetimes list provides 'best' and 'worst' schools. Attainment is important but schools are so so much more than this.
So disappointed to hear Prof Lindsay Paterson categorising ‘good parents’ as those who act as a ‘2nd teacher ‘ while others ‘not equipped’ - worse still not challenged by @BBCRadioScot
Now it’s time to get ready for World Teacher Day 5th October- in a year like no other - we need to recognise the power of education to change young people’s lives in @GlasgowCC and all over the world THANK YOU to all teachers!
Update on Farmfoods vouchers 31,028 complete - WOW!! what an amazing feat - our staff volunteers have worked so hard this week, coming in to Chambers every day in what was a very difficult first week of our new normal - I am sooooo proud #GoGlasgow
Quote from a @GlasgowCC parent 'I can't thank all the teachers enough for their support for us. I know they've their own families to worry about so I'm grateful for all their hard work making sure there are things online + homework packs to make sure that the kids can keep busy'
Depressing read in Times by @mark_mclaughlin - sweeping generalisations about schools calling them 'poorest performing' describing pupils as 'extremely deprived' - the language is appalling - our young people, their teachers and their communities deserve better #ditchleaguetables
Here’s my mum with her 1st pair of NHS trousers she’s made from her neighbour’s duvet - part of @HyndlandSec and @GKCollege production line. I am just the go-between delivering her work!!
12 years ago today on 10th December 2007, I started as Director of Education in @GlasgowCC - still here, still learning, still loving it and prouder than ever of what we have achieved #lovemyjob
