This Friday @rcpsych Council will discuss the College’s partnership with Stonewall. This is a chance for members to lobby their representatives - the officers, faculty & divisional chairs. Many now regard Stonewall as discredited because of its advocacy of gender ideology. 1/3

So I think we report this as: BREAKING NEWS @theBMA has not voted to disavow the Cass Review. My union has not completely lost it. (BMA council members, feel free to correct me if I am wrong)

Report says dozens of doctors have signed a letter criticising @TheBMA position on #CassReview. I don’t know the exact number but it’s closer to a 1000.

A year ago I was called a bigot because I dared to suggest in an election that the @rcpsych should end its relationship with @stonewalluk. 1593 psychiatrists who voted for me were also declared bigots. I lost the vote (52-48%). Maybe the result would be different today.

Maybe an unpopular opinion - “raising awareness of mental illness” has no impact in improving effectiveness of treatment, improving service delivery, or in reducing stigma. In fact it is mostly counterproductive because it is a distraction from dealing with the real issues.

One of the problems here is how transphobia is defined, e.g. along with many psychiatrists I have signed this declaration: can-sg.org/join-us/ Some regard it as transphobic. This is a contested area which needs more open debate but @rcpsych looks frightened to allow that.

If you vote for this individual in the @rcpsych elections you are a bigot voting for a bigot Idealogical criticisms of Stonewall are entirely anti-trans and anti-queer agendas That is the platform this Dr is running on Now. In the UK. With the crisis in mental health.

This has been easily my most liked tweet ever. But why are there hardly any likes from psychiatrists who are my main source of followers? My explanation is that the public are increasing concerned about the issue but psychiatrists are very avoidant.
