Rust is special. The bincode library moved away from Github because of 'immorality', and now bans and scolds contributors who work in 'evil' industries like oil (you know, the guys who keep the lights on). Folks, it's not that hard--just keep politics out of tech.

"Leftist loonies" is an insult, but not a justification for violence. "Nazis" is a justification for violence of the most extreme kind. Brad's argument amounts to, "Yeah he pointed a gun at you, but you slapped him with your white glove in response, so both-sides." 🙄

When these cancel culture extremists lose the battle, their defeat will discourage their comrades from trying to cancel others. Thus, the best way to protect OSS from future attacks is to ensure extremists are utterly crushed & publicly reminded of this defeat at every chance.
