I was in a meeting once where a French executive started with "It is <farting noise made with mouth>" while giving a thumbs down at the same time. I actually really appreciate this directness—it left very little room for alternative interpretations.

Before you drop $3,000+ on an overpowered MacBook Pro M4, consider buying a Mac mini to keep on your desktop and an Air when you're on the go. I've been doing it this way for years when I realized my MBP was docked most of the time as an overpriced desktop.

Here we go... the VC world talking about “surving hard times” with advice given in lots of words that can be summed up as “be prudent with your money” I went through YC in S08, known unofficially as “the worst YC class”. It’s when the “RIP good times” Sequoia deck went out.👇

Advantages: 1. If one machine breaks, you have a backup machine while the other gets repaired. 2. It hurts less when a ~$1k Air gets lost, stolen, or damaged than a $3k+ MBP. 3. Airs are much lighter and really great machines with enough power to do most things on the go.

Consulting firms are an insurance product for executive teams. When predictions don’t pan out, the executive team can say, “Well McKinsey didn’t even get it right!” When the predictions do pan out, the executive team takes credit. Accuracy of their reports is incidental.

For me the most fucked up thing was "silence is violence". Suddenly people who don't know enough about an issue to voice an opinion about it are "violent" wtf?

Today when I give advice to people who want to start a SaaS company, the first thing I say is, “try really hard to not have investors”. Talking about the size of your round is like talking about the huge loan you took out on your car or house. It’s not a good look.

Sr Rails devs describe Rails as being the easiest and most productive way to build web apps. Meanwhile @joemasilotti @excid3 & others discuss how we’re losing a generation of Jr Rails devs because its daunting. Can both be true? Here’s my story on how Rails is losing Jrs. 📖👇

Before Uber, credit card machines in cabs were always broken. Tens of billions of dollars later and they finally work! 💸

    4. You can hide the Mac mini under your table and have a cleaner desktop. Not pictured is the Mac Studio that's hiding in a box beneath my desk.
