HAD
@havehadhavehad
We had an idea that started as a joke. We had an affinity for that minimalist look and feel of early online journals. We had a couple drinks.

    The greatest trick t̶h̶e̶ ̶d̶e̶v̶i̶l̶ Submittable ever pulled was convincing the writing world "In Progress" means anything.

    LOVE a knockout of a "how to" prose poem today from Sarah Chin: havehashad.com/hadposts/how-t…

    this felt too meta and self-referential to accept... but kinda too fun to just reject? so, here's like... half a skull (?) for Andrew Rivas
    I DON’T HAVE A SKULL (YET)

When I tell people I don’t have a skull, they look at me like I’m crazy.
“Of course you do,” they say. “What are you talking about?” Then they change the subject.
They don’t understand. I have thoughts but they are bodiless. If I had a skull my words could take form but right now they are squishy and oozing from my ears.
“The skulls are like prizes,” I tell my mom over the phone. “They let people know you’re the real deal.”
“I’m worried about you,” my mother says; she doesn’t consider the skull. “Have you been taking your medication?”
There is a place where you can apply to get a skull but they’re impossible to get. The place is only open for sixty seconds every couple of weeks or so. Everyone rushes the entrance and gets stuck and before you know it, the doors are closed.
“That’s part of the appeal, though,” I say to a young boy at Target.
One day I will hold
my skull up to their faces and yell “Do you understand now? Do you see?” and they’ll listen.
