Variously described as a sort of lawyer, a fully fledged cricket tragic, a stroppy socialist and a failed husband, only one of which is entirely fair

I shall be deliberately vague here and say no more than that this is a pic of The Greatest in 2003

This is Imran Khan in 1989, so at 37 a little past his best as a bowler, but what a look of determination

Just noticed that Imran Khan has tested positive for COVID - here's hoping he soon shrugs that off, and here is a pic of him from 1987 when, at 35, he was still every inch the thoroughbred and took 21 English wickets at 21.66 - oh, and he scored some runs too ....

Here's a great man who would have been bursting with pride this morning, and quite rightly so - well batted @jbairstow21

For some reason you don't very often see pics of The Masterblaster playing defensively, but this one goes to show he could do it when he wanted to, and yet somehow still manage to do so with considerable panache

Well that was OK, but surely we'd all rather watch The Hundred?

This trio could make the most tedious Test match entertaining - @David215Gower, @GeoffreyBoycott and the finest of them all, the great Richie

We see so much brilliant fielding today, but I'm still not convinced I've ever seen anything quite as thrilling as Derek Randall in the covers - he was a bit special was Arkle

Get well soon @GeoffreyBoycott - show the bloody disease this sort of spirit and you're bound to be fine!
  • user avatar
He's no @GeoffreyBoycott, but is nonetheless a very famous Yorkshireman

Derek Randall was always up for a bit of clowning, but not when the serious business was underway as the look on his face here clearly shows - a wonderful fielder throughout his career this is the sort of thing he was renowned for

A very young Derek Underwood in batting attire - twenty years after this was taken he did make a solitary First Class century, but it is as a distinctly sharp left arm spinner that he will always be remembered

It has been brought to my attention, unnecessarily rudely I thought (but not without justification), that it has been too long since I tweeted a photograph of the greatest cricketer to have played the game, so here he is, pictured in his absolute prime - what a genius he was 🙂
