💯 On Monday, a child was struck in a crosswalk in Ward 6 by a driver swerving around a car at 🚦, leaving her with broken toes & tire marks on her leg. He was simply issued a ticket, even with his 80+ speeding tickets/$18K+ in fines he owes. He shouldn’t be driving in DC. 1/2

The driver of the National Guard’s 14-ton mine-resistant ATV ran a red light on Capitol Hill, struck a vehicle & injured the driver requiring rescue by jaws of life extraction. These vehicles are designed for warfare, not our neighborhood streets - and they don’t belong here.

Defending those without power matters - past pledges of support for DC Statehood couldn’t ring more hollow. Its a reminder that until the nearly 700,000 residents of DC have full statehood & autonomy, we will be seen & treated as a colony, even by those who purport to support us.

I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule – but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections – such as lowering penalties for carjackings. If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did – I’ll sign it.

Of all the insults they hurled at DC today, this one angers us the most. It’s not just a lie - he doesn’t even hide his contempt & disrespect. To all our educators, we support you. To all our parents, we see you. And to all our DC students making us proud every day, we love you.

I take a very different view. Let’s address the security needs inside the Capitol. But what led to the security failures on January 6th shouldn’t become the excuse to wall off the Capitol from its neighbors, take away public spaces, & turn it into a fortress from the people.

Let’s make one thing perfectly clear. You do not need to show “credentials” to vote in DC. This is yet another reason why curfew an hour before Election Day polls close is going to disenfranchise some voters. It should change. If any voter is asked for credentials I want to know.

Police Chief Newsham says MPD will be checking "credentials" to determine if someone is a member of the press, an essential worker, or going to vote and won't be arrested for violating the 7 p.m. curfew.

We broke ground yesterday on the new 100% affordable housing building in NoMa at 301 FL Ave. 115 new homes set aside for residents making 30-50% AMI. Walkable to Metro, grocery stores, schools, & with help from DC Green Bank, it’ll result in utility costs 15-20% ⬇️ than average!
