After four long years, we have a tentative agreement. Despite cuts across @gannett newsrooms, our @azrepublicguild won a contract that raises wages for everybody and preserves medical and retirement benefits.
THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC GUILD IS WALKING OFF THE JOB ๐งต
It's very simple, what @gannett is offering us would leave some members with LESS money in their paychecks each week, and that is unacceptable. We've started a GoFundMe to help support our journalists bit.ly/AZ-GoFundMe
Today, members of the Arizona Republic Guild are walking out for one day in response to @gannettโs decimation of local newsrooms and its refusal to commit to equitable pay, outsourcing protections and affordable benefits in our first contract. ๐งต #GannettWalkout
Yesterday evening, we were told that @Gannett is โrespectfully rejectingโ our request to voluntarily recognize the Arizona Republic Guild.
With an overwhelming majority of support in our newsroom, weโre prepared to push ahead.
We will vote, and we will win. ๐ต
We support reporter Jen Fifield. Harassment of any member of our staff is unacceptable.
Jen is a dogged and well-respected journalist who has done an incredible job keeping the public informed about issues at the heart of our democracy.
We are proud to announce we have ratified our first contract with 100% voting in favor of ratification. This first contract was four years in the making, and we appreciate all of the support we received from our community.
Weโve campaigned for months pressuring @Gannett to give our two environmental reporting fellows health insurance, paid time off and job protections.
It worked.
Now our colleagues are no longer working during a pandemic without health insurance.
Stand together, win together ๐ต
Today, an overwhelming majority of employees in our newsroom are asking @Gannett to voluntarily recognize the Arizona Republic Guild so we can begin contract negotiations as a unit of @news_guild.
Women and people of color at @Gannett are underpaid by as much as $27,000, a @NewsGuild pay equity study has found.
Gannett has pledged to diversify its workforce. But you canโt do that without fair pay.

Patrick does such great work for his community and for @azcentral. Photojournalism isnโt only his job, but itโs what he loves to do.
No one deserves to face this type of hostility for doing their jobs. Weโre here for you @pjbreenphoto ๐ช๐ต
Rattled. Was just accosted while taking photos at a baseball tournament in Mesa. Parents yelled for me to not take pictures of their kid. I agreed and asked which kid was theirs. They didnโt want to say and said if I did they would โkick my ass.โ They yelled I was the fake
