after confessing, the guy tries to kill himself, and they put him in a psych ward. the cops find out his dad's alive shortly after, but they let the guy go on believing his dads dead, his dogs dead, and hes going to prison, for his 72 hours of confinement

this kind of story highlights the very worst of police conduct, and im usually wary of that kind of reporting. it distorts our picture of the world; most cops wouldnt do this but some people who read my posts would do well to change their concept of cops to be much more wary

too many police read autistic behavior as suspicious. idk if this guy was autistic, but police suspected him bc his 911 call sounded "distracted" and "unconcerned" dont turn to police for help unless you have no other option, and get a lawyer first if you can

when i was ~18 i used the word "orthogonal" in conversation with my mom and dad and my mom was like "wtf is orthogonal? use words that people understand" and then my dad said to her "wtf do you mean you dont know what 'orthogonal' means?" and then they started bickering

Thanks yall, now I'm insecure saying "orthogonal" as if it wasn't just a word people use all the time Same with "nontrivial." These are just standard vocab words, not crazy fancy jargon. Don't let zoomers' learning loss warp the culture

Some ppl report this stuff around various gurus or spiritual leaders or experts but I think it's most likely a combination of status + a specific type of charisma. Often these ppl are legit great at what they purport to do but when they aren't it's hard to see it
