- I visited a womens prison and left heartbroken. The women we met were fragile vulnerable and each a victim of extreme abuse. I could see no value to society in locking them up. It’s right to look again at prison reform and to probe the problem we are really trying to solve.

- I’m deeply troubled that such such sensitive information has been released by the force at this stage. - It’s firefighter and has been for decades. Just as it’s police officer. It’s not ‘woke’ - it’s a fact. And language matters. @NFCC_FireChiefs @PoliceChiefs @AssocPCCs @LGAfirerescue
- It’s the 21st century. I think it’s important to call out the disgraceful comments (in a small section of the media) about the appearance of a competent senior female detective.
- The operational independence of our police is enshrined and it’s a marker of our civil society. The police uphold the law - without fear or favour. They do not make the law. Politicians make our laws - they do not police us. It is as simple as that.
- I’ve had the joy of working with the most fabulously talented public servants, in incredible teams, all of my career. And I continue to do so. I am utterly thrilled to receive a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. I give you all my deepest thanks.

- British Gas broke into homes of a mum with a 4 week old baby; a woman with severe mental illness and a family with a disabled child so they can turn the gas off in freezing weather. In other news an energy company posts £32bn profit. Is it me or has something gone horribly wrong?
- The police can’t solve the epidemic of violence against women and girls alone. A bold and radical ‘whole system’ approach to uproot deep seated societal issues is needed. Focus on prevention and perpetrators. Now is the time. 👇
- Disappointing that speaking out on racism & misogyny in the fire service generates so much Twitter backlash like…don’t need diversity: just need best people (men?) to do the job; only a few incidents. This contrasts with policing where talk is largely about the need to improve.
