We are very excited to have @JenAFifield joining Votebeat after her superb coverage of the 2021 Arizona election review and conflicts over voting in Maricopa County for @azcentral. Reporters like Jen are what the voting beat needs now.
    Replying to @JenAFifield
I’m excited to announce that I’m joining @VoteBeatUS as their new Arizona reporter. I’ll be one of their first local reporters in a new & exciting team that will cover voting and elections nationally, from the ground up.

Gov. Greg Abbott boasted that Texas removed 6,500 noncitizens from its voter rolls. That number was likely inflated.

Votebeat's @NataliaECG obtained the Gillespie County Elections Director's resignation letter through a public records request. She says threats, Texas's new election laws, low pay and lack of staff have "completely changed" her job, making it "unsustainable."
    August 2, 2022

Dear Gillespie County Elections Commission:

I want to thank the commission for hiring me to be the inaugural Elections Administrator. We have accomplished many positive changes during the last three years, most visibly modernizing the method of voting and acquiring a new voting system.

However, there are some negative changes that have also happened in the elections landscape. The threats against election officials and my election staff, dangerous misinformation, lack of full time personnel for the elections office, unpaid compensation, and absurd legislation have completely changed the job I initially accepted.

The life commitment I have given to this job is not sustainable. In light of these changes and for my health and well-being I am resigning as Elections Administrator. Please consider this my two week notice and my last day will be August 16th.

Sincerely,

Anissa Herrera
Texas Registered Election Official (REO)
Gillespie County Elections Administrator

Hey Arizona!! Votes in Maricopa County and Phoenix *will* be counted on #ElectionDay. There are widespread issues with ballot tabulators, but ballots can be placed in a secure box to be counted later in the day. Here's how that process works:
    MARICOPA BALLOT TABULATORS

If you want to vote immediately at a vote center where the ballot tabulator isn’t working, you can place your ballot into a secure box underneath the machine. The ballot will be kept there until polls close.

After polls close, the ballots will be transported by a bipartisan team to the county’s central elections center and they will be counted there. This is the same way all mail-in ballots are counted.
    MARICOPA BALLOT TABULATORS

Alternatively, you can either wait for the machines to start working again or travel to another nearby location to vote.

If you do decide to leave, have a poll worker sign you out of the first location before leaving. This will allow you to vote at the second location like normal.

You can look up the nearest location to you, and check wait times, at locations.maricopa.vote.
