John Heinecke, the Chief Publishing Officer & Head of the Western Branch of Square Enix has officially resigned ahead of the wave of layoffs.
He responded “piss off” to concern of woke ideology in video games.
Heinecke was the direct voice of the Western market to Japan.

Do we have a skill level issue or what is going on?"Translating Final Fantasy is hard" = Localizers trying to justify why they continue to butcher Japanese scripts rather than translate them faithfully into English.

- Yusuke Haruguchi, Localization Project Manager in the JP branch seems to be affected by the Square Enix layoffs. He stated “they take into account overseas cultures and trends and even consult with the development team to change the character appearances and game content” 🧵
- Trudie G., Senior HR Generalist who worked at Square Enix for about 4 years has been laid off. She implemented DE&I initiatives to support inclusive programming, cultural initiatives & belonging strategies. She served as the leader of the ERGs and embedded SE’s new values.
- Square Enix’s Director Tracy Fullerton’s LinkedIn no longer exists & her Facebook profile has either been hidden or deleted. While this does not confirm of her resignation from SE, it is something to share. She is still listed on Square Enix’s website. Links below.

- Global Brand Manager at Square Enix External Studio Anne-Lou Grobois-Favreau has been laid off. She was a Star Mentor of the lobbying agency Limit Break Mentorship along with FFXVI actor Ben Starr. It seems Square Enix Voice Actors are also aligning with these ideologies.
- Final Fantasy XIV Project Manager Mizuho Kondo is no longer working at Square Enix after 14 years with the company. She was the key communicator for marketing, community, PR, & Japanese interpretation for the FF14 projects who answered to Western Leadership, John Heinecke.
- 2 PR directors have been laid off by Square Enix: Former Blizzard & Senior Director of PR at SE Ryan Arbogast who was with SE for 14 years. PR director Emily Shoji who was with SE for 15 years. SE seems to be laying off people directly related to communication and feedback
- Hinano Akiyama a Japanese-English interpreter and translator for the Square Enix Western branch has been laid off. She was responsible for translating and interpreting internal and external communications between the two branches along with interviews for the media.
- Genshin’s Kayli Mills comments about Jacob barely doing voice work & not needing it to support him while forgetting she joined the FF7R project which replaced career voice actors with popular tv actors who has no voice acting experience.
