- While everyone was freaking out about the "bomb cyclone" that brought a typical Sierra snowstorm. I'm over here wondering why no one is focused on 4-6" of rain that could fall below ~7k' Mon-Tue from a warm/wet storm, on top of all the fresh snow & a saturated ground & snowpack👀
- We are continuing to track a 3-4 day storm From Sat night - Tue, maybe Wed. Starts warm Sat night into Sun, but then snow levels drop below lake level Sun night through the end. IF the forecast trends continue we'll be measuring in feet, early estimates of 2-4 feet on the mtns.
- This has to be one of the quietest mid-August smoke maps we've seen in a while (knock on wood)...
- The latest model runs are coming to a consensus on a wetter pattern starting Friday, and possibly lasting into the 3rd week of March. These storms could bring heavy rain and snow along with fluctuating snow levels. We will likely see a lot of rain below 7k. More details all week.
- For anyone traveling up to Tahoe for the weekend or already here, there are NO travel windows on Sunday. Heavy snow after midnight Saturday through Monday. Plan to stay until Tuesday if you want safe travel, and I'd expect 80 to possibly close at times on Sunday. 2-3" per hour!
- Officially the snowiest Oct-Feb period since 1970 as recorded by the Central Sierra Snow Lab near Donner Summit, and likely the highest since 1952. It's also the coldest winter recorded so far for Tahoe City since 1952, but I doubt we're getting to 800 inches again. @UCB_CSSL
