I just published a wee blog post about our lab re-brand - we are now the Edinburgh Inclusive MIND Lab! Check out our lovely new logo and you can see our latest research outputs at our collective google scholar profile here too: scholar.google.com/citations?hl=e… medium.com/@suefletcherwa…
    A logo icon with text.
The icon on the left hand side is a pattern such as someone might make with a spirograph. It has multiple looping and intersecting lines, in rainbow colours, creating a circular flower-like pattern.
The text on the right hand side reads as follows:
Ed In MIND
Edinburgh Inclusive Mind Lab
mental health, interaction, neurodiversity, development

It has been an honour to carry baby Polly and, quite literally, deliver her into the arms of her loving parents This surrogacy has been a chance to embody my hopes for a fairer world in the most visceral, profound way possible I will forever be proud of this joyous moment
On the 4th of July, as one regime came to an end… a new power was rising. Her name is Polly, born via surrogacy. Dads, baby and surrogate all doing well. As two dads, having a child was made possible thanks to two incredible people.

Wishing my autistic friends, colleagues and followers a wonderful #AutisticPrideDay I made you a meme as a wee gift. Hope you like it!
Anakin Skywalker and Padme meme. Top left corner: Anakin says “I’m promoting autism awareness”. Top right corner: Padme says “so you’re including autistic people right?”, while smiling. Bottom right corner: Padme says “so you’re including autistic people right?”, while looking concerned.

anyone wanna see the neurodiversity memes I made for a talk? this first one you may have seen before, and it's about whether we should think of a neurodiversity model as "strengths based" or not... two more in the thread.
a meme showing four levels of "mind-blowing" images of brains with captions.
The top level (tiny brain) says "neurodivergent people have characteristic strengths and talents"
Level 2 (glowing brain) says "the very fact of neurodiversity and the differences between people is a source of strength and talent"
Level 3 (brightly shining brain) says "our notion of strengths and talents is inherently capitalist and needs expanding"
Level 4 (fully lit-up brain with beams of emitting light and stars flying out) says "the concept of strengths and talents is completely irrelevant to valuing and respecting all humans equally"

A "mind-blown" meme showing a series of brains which are increasingly lit-up, representing more and more sophisticated understanding. The brains are labelled, in sequence, with the following text: 1. neurodivergent people have characteristic strengths and talents. 2. the very fact of neurodiversity and the differences between people is a source of strength and talent. 3. our notion of strengths and talents in inherently capitalist and needs expanding. 4. the concept of strengths and talents is completely irrelevant to valuing and respecting all humans equally

A thread on how to access journal articles, for people who don't have access via an employer... Obv open access is best, but in the meantime, here are some get-arounds, since I've seen a few folks on here struggling to locate articles / coming up against paywalls

I got my kids a snow duck maker and everyone mocked me but I have never been so vindicated.

Just yelled at my kids to stop fooling around and go to bed. Eldest yelled back: “ok mum, we’ll stop making precious memories together”

APA guidelines still recommend person-first language for writing about autism but I am trying to use identity-first nearly all the time now. We had a positive experience with a journal which I thought I’d share.  THREAD

Spectrum's coverage of the rising leadership and participatory involvement of autistic people in autism research has had a consistently toxic effect, embodied in this article. I've therefore been informally boycotting Spectrum, the autism specific news site & here's why a 🧵
After decades of exclusion from decision-making in research, some autistic people are fiercely fighting for a seat at the table. But the issue is more complex than just a power struggle. bit.ly/3j26ReP

Some observations on team building exercises, being fat, and inclusion I have recently been invited to join two outdoorsy team-building events. I am dreading them and here’s why. (Thread with illustrations from one of my fat icons, Baymax)
