    St. Stephen's College pays heartfelt tribute to the fond memory of Dr. David Baker, senior most and beloved teacher of College.
    In 1969, Dr. David Baker joined College as a faculty in the Department of History. During his years of teaching in College, he was known for his discipline, commitment to sound learning and deep concern for the well-being of all the students under his guidance. Dr. Baker served as Block Tutor to several residence blocks on campus, the last one under his guidance being the Allnutt North Residence Block; even in his post-retirement days, Dr. Baker carried on this role effectively-- regularly inviting resident junior members to his suite for weekly tea sessions and graciously hosting customary 'Block Teas'. Though advancing in years, Dr. Baker slowly and steadily continued his morning walks through the ridge in crisply ironed clothes, and ensured that decorum was maintained in the Residence, College Library and Mess. One is reminded of these two lines from Oliver Goldsmith's poem today: "he was kind; or if severe in aught, The love he bore to learning was in fault."
