Today I begin a new journey & greatest honor of my career, as
Vice Chair of Pediatric Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine @HopkinsMedicine
&
Anesthesiologist-in-Chief @HopkinsKids
Inspired by the #PedsICU & #PedsAnes team I have the honor of working side-by-side w/each day.
When you encounter a name that looks tough to pronounce:
Do โNOTโ say: โIโm not even gonna tryโ/โIโm going to butcher thisโ ๐
โ DO โ
1. Try to pronounce it phonetically and ask for feedback
OR simply say
2. โPronouncing names correctly is important to me- tell me howโ
A few important points in this video of a child w/heart failure
1. The helmet. #SafetyFirst
2. Creativity. Ambulation is not the most fun form of #ICURehab
3. The clothes. Theyโre hers. Theyโre comfy. They are-home. #NoGown
4. THE STAFF. The #PedsICU nurses-they make it happen
Last day, #SapnasCOVIDDiary.
After 14 days of #IsolationLife in the bedroom, I rejoined my family- symptom-free & blessed to be a #COVID19 survivor who experienced only mild disease.
Hereโs my emergence celebration. ๐คฃ
Joining colleagues on front lines Monday in adult #ICU!
So many of you have supported me for so long on this academic medicine journey, so sharing some news.
Promoted to full Professor of #Anesthesiology & #CriticalCareMedicine, #Pediatrics & #PMR@HopkinsMedicine. ๐
Hereโs to keeping that door open & fixing the leaky pipeline,
Toddler pulled boiling water on chest. 5% BSA but ok. 4 hours later tripoding & drooling in ED. I wanted OR for intubation. Others said ED fine because no oral injury. Took him anyway. Couldnโt intubate. Emergent trach. Thermal epiglottitis. #TrustYourGut#ShareAStoryInOneTweet
I am a Pediatric Intensivist (#PedsICU Physician). I take care of the sickest children in the hospital.
My 12 & 15 year old were #COVID19 vaccinated the 1st day it was available.
If my kids were 5-11 it would be the same today.
#PutKids1st#VaccinesWork
I am a Pediatric Nephrologist. I thank god I donโt have children between the age of 5-11 (seriously, how have you people survived this??), but if I did, they would be getting their COVID vaccine as soon as it was available. ๐
Thread: My plea for all #ICU staff:
1. Talk to intubated patients, no matter how old or young. Many of your patients are awake, even if their eyes are closed
2. Always tell them what youโre about to do to them and talk to them while you do it. (1/2)

My 1st NIH R01 is submitted.
Feeling all of the feelings- whatever the outcome, Iโm so grateful to the incredible people who supported me in this process. You know who you are. Colleagues, friends & family.
As my daughter told her best friend - โI get my mommy back today!โ ๐
Every once in a while, make sure you sit down with senior #mentors you trust and just TALK. Not about your research, your patients, or your next paper. About life. Your life, their life, what they've learned about work-life integration. You'll be glad you did.
