To my friends in the esports industry, a 🧵: I am calling for us to take back our industry. For too long we have been sold as a quick audience grab, passed around to the highest bidder, and then passed around again to whoever buys the highest bidder.

Hard to find the words to express how much this award means to me. I spent so much time in this space afraid to speak up because I knew I didn’t fit. To be recognized by my peers is not just rewarding but it’s also comforting, I fit. We all fit. Thank you. 🧡

I’ve noticed a new wave of self-proclaimed “experts” popping up who have never actually worked in esports. Some build entire careers on introductions rather than impact. Others claim to champion students, yet set up walls and exclusivity rules that have nothing to do with merit.

Today I was presented with the “Woman of Inspiration” award at the Celebrating Women in Sports luncheon, hosted by the Orlando Sports Commission. I am still in a shocked state of overwhelmed that I’d even be considered for something like that. I’m out of words. What a day 💪

Being a woman in a male dominated field can be isolating. But what isn’t talked about enough is the WORK that male leaders put in to being allies, learning, educating and evolving, pushing through that isolation Feeling very loved & supported this week, just very appreciative.

HOT TAKE. Maybe the collegiate esports industry at large can take note at how the women of the space support, celebrate and HELP each other, because recognizing that we each have our own purpose and its when we come together that real movement happens. Just a thought.
