I fear Trump’s #COVID19 diagnosis will be a disaster. He’ll be fine: early diagnosis, 24h care, early remdesivir and Covid antibodies. He’ll get better & say Covid is no big deal. People will believe him, let down their guard, and 100Ks will die when they can’t get the same care.

- We undermine the quality of our lives by torturing each other during peer review. Every #phd and #postdoc should be trained how to review. Only request work that: 1) could change major conclusions; 2) the authors can do; 3) you would do if it were your paper. #qualitypeerreview
- As reported by the AP, I was one of the first with Covid vaccine-induced myocarditis in US. Everyone should get vaccinated-there is more to gain than to lose. Myocarditis is rare, but not a mild side effect. We need research to understand and stop rare adverse events from vaccine
- 3 years ago Hanna spent 7 months in chemo and radiation therapy. She beat the cancer and is back publishing @Nature. Her toughness, determination, and perseverance is one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever seen. Next time you think you’re having a rough day, think of Hanna.A new finding from Dr. Hanna Mikkola in @nature could greatly improve treatment options for blood cancers like leukemia and for many inherited blood diseases. stemcell.ucla.edu/news/researche…
- Texas voted today to authorize ANOTHER $3B in CPRIT funding for cancer research. Texas is the only state to reauthorize a multi-billion dollar state science funding program. Thank you to the people of Texas for their unprecedented support of science and innovation.
- Get three of your senior lab members to independently estimate the amount of time required to complete the project, then add all of their estimates together.
- Trainees see the challenges in academia: long hours, uncertainty, stress about grants/papers. It's harder to see the privileges: long-term friendships, doing interesting things with interesting people around the world, the opportunity to make a difference. I'm profoundly gratefulIt’s the greatest job on the world!
- Congrats Julia Phan + Aslan Tasdogan for their paper in Science today: hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) & erythropoiesis get activated during pregnancy and after bleeding by retrotransposons that turn on in HSCs activating cGAS/STING & interferon signaling
- @BoShenUTSW discovered a periarteriolar niche for osteogenic and lymphoid progenitors in the bone marrow @Nature. This niche requires mechanical stimulation! Exercise strengthens bone and immunity partly by forces transmitted into the BM along arterioles. nature.com/articles/s4158…
- Congrats to Jess! She may have explained why many cancers metastasize first to lymph nodes and THEN through the blood to distant sites: lymph protects the cells from oxidative stress. This clinical phenomenon has been the basis for much of cancer staging and treatment for decadesNew study from @SJMorrison_ lab @Nature figured out why many cancers metastasize to lymph nodes before forming distant tumors. Lymph protects them from oxidative stress. Melanoma cells take up anti-oxidants from lymph that prevent ferroptosis in the blood. cri.utsw.edu/how-lymph-node…
- Woohoo, congrats @RJDLab on receiving the Paul Marks Prize this afternoon at MSK. Way to go Ralph!
- Not to nit pick about grammar, but the plural of y’all is “all y’all”
- Thanks to my friends for helping to celebrate my birthday on the beach in Cancun! Have I mentioned how much I love doing science?? @RJDLab @lydfinley @Manning_BD @LabReuben @ChristofkLab @JaviGBermudez
- There is no stem cell therapy for Covid19. We would not expect stem cells to have any therapeutic value for people with Covid19. @ISSCR Rudy Giuliani now plugging unproven stem cells for COVID19: is Trump next? ipscell.com/2020/03/rudy-g… via @pknoepfler
