The Modi government has crossed the 2nd year of its 3rd term. Per our India Reforms Scorecard, the government has completed 2 of the 30 reforms we track; below the pace of its first 2 terms. indiareforms.csis.org

India is suddenly the most "trade deal friendly nation" in the world. Read that one again!

Almost 10 years later… and 24 years since I first met him. He was India’s most effective commercial diplomat during the Vajpayee government.

I hope somebody in India is brushing off that "Make Mumbai a global financial hub" plan... As Hong Kong goes down the tubes, there will be a bit more space.

In the world's eyes, India's restraint in responding to prior terrorist attacks was a crucial factor giving India the credibility to act now. India showed the world it is by far the more mature nation.

If the chief ministers of a half-dozen large Indian states prioritized industry growth, 10 percent growth rates would quickly become the new floor.

Quiz time! Name a country where the US hasn’t had an ambassador for 18 months, AND: - Has 1.4 bn people - Is engaged in a military confrontation with China - Has nuclear weapons, and is constantly at risk of a terror stack from a nuclear weapons state?

Yes, a meaningful SCO Summit and engagements with Russia and China. But come on... Check out the agreements India signed with Japan just ahead of the SCO Summit. Don't conflate ponds with oceans.

Heading in to the US-India 2+2, I really hope American policymakers remember- India is most definitely “aligned” on the big Indo-Pacific threat. Don’t risk a rupture in the coming days over a European threat that we & partners clearly have the tools to manage.

India's ability to win job-creating manufacturing investments doesn't require trade deals, PLI programs, or tariffs. A winning strategy: Concrete reforms & execution by states. Land acquisition, power pricing & availability, flexible labor regs, stable industrial regs.

India is doubling down on a key asymmetrical advantage vis-a-vis China: Building security partnerships w/ powerful nations. India: U.S., Japan, Australia, Vietnam, France, Britain, etc. China: Pakistan Bilats, trilats, Quad. Things that concern Beijing the most.

Why is India's insurance regulator in Hyderabad? When the Vajpayee government pushed for de-monopolizing insurance, the @JaiTDP with 29 Lok Sabha seats agreed to support- if the government put the regulator in Hyderabad. That's how cooperative federalism should work! Win-win.
