9) Besides, why is @LinfieldUniv spending money (when we have a $4.6 million deficit) on hiring outside investigators and sending faculty like me “confidential” and “formal complaints” without our HR first talking to me and finding out my involvement (and in this case NONE)?
7) “Unprofessional?” Why am I being charged of unprofessionalism for posting images of two quotes promoting English majors? Besides I neither did I write these, not do I know who did. Moreover, these quotes on the whiteboard are neither offensive or promote any hate-speech.
5) Today I received an email from HR stating that a “formal complaint” has been filed against me marked “confidential.” Confidential complaints are often a coded word for silencing and intimidating those who make the status quo uncomfortable.
13)And here I am dumbfounded by receiving from HR an accusatory email with no details (in the middle of spring break) because colleagues from the Business Dept complained (targeting me). Why? Because they are uncomfortable about some quotes -that I didn’t even write.
15)This culture of abuse by intimidation and silencing needs to be seriously addressed to protect both faculty and our students. It is high time that those that are promoting this culture of abuse and a sustained attack on the English Department needs to be held accountable.
12) @AAUP has conducted an extensive investigation (soon to be released) in which they have condemned @LinfieldUniv and its administration for harboring a culture of abuse.
16) We need some intervention. The system is fully broken. The climate is toxic. While this is the latest example of power-play, our faculty (especially in the College of Arts and Sciences) continue to be traumatized by being devalued (which has become a norm).
6) The “confidential email says:
“It is reported that a series of events took place in TJ Day Hall and on social media that were unprofessional to colleagues in the building. You have been named as the party involved in these actions.”
The tacit and silent aggression that many BIPOC-WOC faculty receive from white women, (mostly cis gendered) is a real thing. It often stems from their white fragility, insecurities, power hungry tendencies when they feel threatened by BIPOC faculty who can hold their ground.
If you are teaching or reading @KieseLaymon’s powerful memoir “HEAVY,” I recommend watching the 1965 debate between James Baldwin and William Buckley. There is a continuum between what Baldwin says in 1965 and where Laymon’s memoir ends.
