This graph from @CSIRO's latest GenCost is probably the most important graph for 🇦🇺's energy transition. It underpins the belief that wind and solar are cheap, even accounting for storage, firming, transmission etc. And it's completely bogus. 🧵1/

Let's talk about the so-called heat-wave, and lack-of-reserves. Yesterday at noon, NSW had over 12GW of total demand. Rooftop solar provided over 30%. Over 4GW. Wind and solar together was around 55%. Not bad! 1/

Just been watching @Bowenchris at the @PressClubAust, on how good it is that renewable energy produces negative wholesale prices. How long can he keep defending this kind of chaos that oversupplied renewables bring to the grid as a good reason to avoid any reliable baseload?

So @CSIRO has released their next consultation draft for GenCost. The most important conclusion is this one... That renewables have "lowest cost range of any new electricity generation" I wonder whether the data supports that?

I’m opposing nuclear because… I enjoy the warm embrace of the incumbent private industry that my side of politics has showered with privileges and subsidies for the last decade. Dutton’s state-owned power stations threaten that. Does Labor not get how this comes across?

Today I addressed over 200 renewable energy investors and industry leaders at the first VicGrid industry forum. It shows the depth of investor interest in Victoria and the opportunity that renewables represent. Dutton wants to threaten this investment with his nuclear fantasy.
