The Empire State In the mustard asthma, the mannerist skyscraper: a banner of flypaper, much-clustered, plasma.

I think of "Hwรฆt!" (the opening word of "Beowulf") as the first word of English literature. Scholars write articles on what it might mean. If you were translating "Beowulf," how would you capture "Hwรฆt!" in our English?

Only after I had come apart utterly and was nothing, did I start to turn my private boneyard into art.

For me, being a writer means always being afraid that I will never be able to write well again. Anyone else feel the same way?

Today, 2020 O, Lord, believe me, I am with them, my friends the losers, the defeated. I stomp out an anarchic rhythm, a consolation that is needed. . .

I just got a book-deal with @wwnorton to translate Baudelaire's "Flowers of Evil"! Time for a quarantine party! "You, reader, know this tender freak of freaksโ€” hypocrite readerโ€”fellowmanโ€”my twin!"

Love in a Time of Contagion I, with my bad luck, started to pursue you just a week before the quarantine. Now youโ€™re alluring phrases on a screen, and all I think about is getting through. . . #QuarantineLove
