People eating together in groups is something that humans have done forever. The idea that there’s something strange or immoral about is kind of insane.
It’s not like that joke is even making fun of her, really. She always seems annoyed that she has to deal with being famous even though it’s the thing she’s relentlessly pursued her whole life.
Something doesn’t add up with the whole story… So his wife knew, and the woman’s husband knew… What exactly was the issue, and how did it become a problem? No one has actually provided real detail as to what it was.
I always think it’s funny that people think they deserve any sort of justification at all. One perk of being an adult is that I’m responsible for my own decisions and I don’t owe answers to everyone.
My parents were slightly to the right of Rush Limbaugh, but somehow I grew up hearing about this story in a way that portrayed David being solely to blame, taking Bathsheba forcefully, etc… I mean the text is pretty clear.
Don’t you think Evangelicals themselves are largely disrespectful of the past? I think that’s part of the problem inherent with it. It’s a very un-rooted tradition, and the idea that it needs to reinvent itself for every generation is part of its DNA.
