It was great to hear from our members yesterday in an online call to discuss the establishment of @mainstreamlbr and Open Labour's involvement. Thank you to all who attended on such short notice!
Our country faces a choice. The populist right offers only division and decline. The Labour Party must prove there’s a democratic socialist alternative, and make it real. Now more than ever, it needs to hear & heed the voices of its radical realists. mainstreamlabour.org/get-involved
Graphic which says: Labour must offer a popular, principled and practical left politics for meaningful change.

Our core principle is to strive for more democracy not less. At this year’s conference we have a record number of delegates on the floor, if there are any attempts to bring back the electoral college, we will urge them and everyone else to reject it.

We support this petition created by member @willuminare calling on Labour to support cancelling rent payments for tenants experiencing a drop in income. Deferring rent payments is not enough. We encourage our members to sign and support #CancelTheRent

Following an extensive ballot of our members and a debate event in Nottingham, Open Labour is proud to announce its support for @lisanandy for leader of the Labour Party! lisanandy.org

We are delighted to see PR is at the forefront of Momentum’s agenda and look forward to working with them and other groups to getting electoral reform adopted as policy at Labour Party Conference🌹
"A popular consensus is building across the labour movement for a change to our First Past the Post electoral system, which has consistently delivered Tory majorities on a minority of the vote... @PeoplesMomentum will join the charge for PR" - @gayasktn labourlist.org/2021/04/moment…

For over a year we have tried protecting each other from Covid. More than 150,000 loved ones have died. Most of us continue to wear masks and many continue to shield to protect vulnerable loved ones. That is not cowardly. Javid's suggestion is vile and he is unfit for office.

We have always been clear, Transphobia has no place in our society and especially in our Party. We're proud to support the commitment to trans rights, especially self-ID. 🏳️‍⚧️✊
Labour Students stands in complete solidarity with the trans community, and it always will 🏳️‍⚧️✊ We need action on transphobia in @UKLabour and demedicalised self-ID introduced in the first term of a Labour Government. Anything else is a betrayal of the LGBTQ+ community.
A statement from a majority of the National Labour Students Committee.

Labour Students reaffirms its unequivocal support and solidarity with the trans community in light of Keir Starmer's recent use of transphobic dogwhistles and the abandoning of our Party's commitment to self-ID. Trans women are women and trans men are men - any statement to the contrary is transphobia, and completely unacceptable.

The Labour Party and its national leadership should be a champion for LGBTQ+ rights, tackling transphobia within the Party and society. Instead, we see a continued failure of Labour to clamp down on anti-trans hate. This must end. Labour Clubs across the country have affirmed their solidarity with the trans community time and again. We continue to encourage Labour Students members as well as the wider labour movement to affirm support for the trans community and to condemn the leadership's actions…

Continued on next image alt.
Over the next few months, Labour Students is going to make campaigning for anti-transphobia structures in the Party a priority. Labour must have a definition of transphobia with wide support from across the trans community so there is a standard by which cases of transphobia can be judged against.

Moreover, Labour MPs who have consistently espoused anti-trans beliefs should lose the Labour whip - they do not align with our values as the Party of equality. We will also continue to support and work for a full, demedicalised self-ID system of gender recognition.

We will never stop fighting for a world free from transphobia and other forms of
hate.

In solidarity,

Fabiha Askari, Alex Charilaou, Kieron Warren, Moya O’Rourke, Lola Fayokun, Elilee Arulkumar, Joshua Freestone, Chloe Brookes, Ruth Day, Nimah Ogas-Hersi, Molly Bloomfield, Lily Soaper, Eleanor Falshaw, Zac Bates-Fisher, Hareem Ghani, Libs Olley and Cai Parry.

All members of National Labour Students Committee.

"Saying trans women are women and trans men are men is just the beginning. We need to be fighting for trans people in the workplace. We need to be fighting for trans healthcare" says our Parliamentary Officer Alex Sobel MP at tonight's rally #Lab21

We're very pleased to see the @UKLabour NEC adopt a fairer voting system, where all members count and all of us matter. This is good news for member democracy. If you want sweeping majorities you now need sweeping support - but it's also harder for any faction to be erased.

On banning MPs' dodgy second jobs, "we have to be careful about this, we are dealing with human beings who have families and responsibilities," says Tory MP Andrew Rosindell, who voted cut £20 Universal Credit from struggling families because "maybe they don’t need it".

Full solidarity with our member @OmarSalem, who has spent the day being hounded by the right-wing press and their lickspittle bloggers for having the audacity to criticise the PM when his child was ill in hospital. You are the worst people. Thank you.

Labour should heed its affiliates representing minority groups when they speak out. The party must demonstrate that it will not tolerate transphobia or homophobia from members or elected officials. Solidarity with LGBT+ members across the party who are affected by this.🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈
We are calling for the whip to be removed from Rosie Duffield MP and have a submitted a formal complaint to the party about her conduct. @UKLabour must show zero tolerance towards homophobia and transphobia, including from its own MPs. labourlist.org/2021/07/withdr…
