CEO/Founder at Recharge ($100M+ ARR) | Empowering entrepreneurs and builders | Post on building a company
- Done over 1,000 hires at this point. I’ve got a simple rule now 2 weeks in I do a gut check has anyone on the team told me this person is awesome? If not that’s a red flag. Great hires make life easier for everyone. People should be excited.
- I think investing in D2C CPG brands might be one of the best places to invest in right now. Most money is flowing into AI, but there’s a real revolution happening in health and beauty products and it’s under funded. Unlike other parts of D2C, CPG brands can actually scale
- Big milestone: Recharge just hit profitability this month and we’re growing at our fastest pace in 3 years 🚀 Nothing feels better than owning your destiny and building for the long term.
- After the big AWS outage today glad I use Google cloud. My strategy was clear use the same cloud provider as Shopify so if google cloud goes down we are both down.
- Seeing in our data that the last 2 months new checkouts across Recharge merchants is down 7% vs forecasted levels when comparing in August to October. Makes sense when you have 12% of the population impacted by government shutdown.Everyone keeps saying ad performance is down and DTC sales are soft this month. It’s not just you. It’s the economy. I didn't believe it at first, but this is real and significant. The government shutdown has a bigger impact than you realize. It froze confidence and cash
- Lost a big customer yesterday because of a stupid mistake. It hit hard but I pulled myself back and reminded myself that entrepreneurship is an infinite game it doesn’t end. Woke up today fresh leaning into why we messed u, and ready to fix some shit.
- Two months ago I started being more public about what we’re doing at Recharge. Unexpected benefit it fires up the 400+ people here. By putting myself out there, I’m showing what we believe in and where we are going. Kinda like the general who rides out first before battle.
- Funny seeing people say remote doesn’t work. I scaled Recharge to 300+ fully remote before we ever had an office. Now we’re 1/3 in office and 2/3 remote. Some teams (like Sales/ gtm) thrive in-office, while others (Engineering/Product) scale better distributed in my experience.
- The era of commerce software just showing basic analytics is over. Merchants want answers, not dashboards. At Recharge, we’re building AI-native tools that analyze customer data and tell merchants exactly what to do to grow LTV and reduce churn.
- First subscription sold on Shopify POS. Omnichannel subscription dream is real now. Congrats @alexkaplan0
- Interesting to see companies flexing in the AI era. Slack and Figma are locking down APIs so AI systems have to pay for access or get limited in what they can do. Cloudflare, which routes 1/3 of web traffic, is making websites unreadable by AI by default unless paid.
- Replying to @tobiI just shared this with my whole company couldn’t agree more
- Did an audit of the 187 commerce events we did this year for Recharge. Pretty clear our owned events (chargex, dinners, etc) and the big trade shows is where all the value is for us. Almost everything else was a waste of time and money. Going to focus on 80/20 rule next year for
