The football that we watch on TV on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays is driven by money. However, Friday nights are about community, tradition, and love of the game. Please, turn off the TV tomorrow night, and go support your local high school team!
There are two playoff teams this year that haven't won a game since week 1. While I get that Ohio has a tradition of the playoffs including every team in most sports, I still think that 8 teams per region was perfect in football.
My oldest is a freshman at OSU and his first game has the nation's #1 team coming to town.
Yes, physics and calculus first, but come Saturday, make the Horseshoe walls rattle on 3rd down, son.
For those who get the chance to spend tomorrow morning at practice with your team, enjoy the moment. A Thanksgiving Day practice is something you may well remember for the rest of your life, especially if (like many of us) you only get to experience it once!
A varsity football career doesn't last long. If you're a player (or family) for a playoff team, savor the experience. Yes, a lot of teams got here, but more teams didn't. Senior year or not, this playoff game might be the last one, so pause a moment and take it all in.
Reminder: the difference between low-D1 and D2/D3 isn't always so big. Capital was picked to finish 6th in the OAC this year.
Mount Union, Marietta, & Wooster each average more than half the attendance of CSU. The small-school academic experience is often better, too. #whyD3
After two members of our family battled unrelated medical issues in 2021, we are now healthy again, by the grace of God and the terrific folks at the Cleveland Clinic! With things slowly returning to normal at home & at work, I plan to resume the F50 for the 2022 season.
Moving to Ohio in 2008, I knew that HSFB was big but didn't anticipate the level of interest in the F50 idea...millions of website hits annually and now 10K followers here.
Just like 25 years ago in NC, I enjoy being a small part of something that brings communities together.
A Thanksgiving morning practice is one of my enduring memories from 11 years on the sidelines. For those who get that chance tomorrow, take the field with enthusiasm! So many guys would love to be in your shoes, instead of playing Madden or watching the parade on TV.
