We deplore the way in which James Cook was treated, and we commend the professional and courteous way in which he conducted himself despite extreme provocation. No journalist - and no worker - should be subjected to this at their place of work.
This is utterly sickening. @BBCJamesCook is the most fair, thorough & kindest journalists in the business. His calm reaction in the face of this vitriol tells you everything you need to know about him. Appalling. x.com/blairmcdougall…

Astonishing and shocking confrontation. Journalists need to be free to go about their work without interference from @PoliceScotland. We will be following up on this to ask why police officers apparently are unaware of the law.
🗣️'Let's have a selfie, big man. Are you still not going to take a direction from a constable in uniform?' NEW: A journalist at The National was threatened with arrest by a police officer while attempting to cover a major protest outside a Glasgow arms factory Full video 👇

Wondering why the @STVNews News at Six bulletin is cancelled ? Our @NUJofficial STV members have begun the first in a series of strikes - and management have had to learn that you can’t make journalism without journalists. 1/2
Solidarity with our @STVNews members on strike today across Scotland. Solidarity and strong picket lines in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee with lots of political support at Holyrood. #nujstvstrike @NUJofficial

This is important. No journalist should face abuse or harassment online for doing their job, particularly when that journalist is properly trying to achieve balance and represent all viewpoints, and the abuse female journalists receive is different in both tone and volume.
THREAD Last week, I was gathering reaction in Dundee with @BBCJamesCook on @NicolaSturgeon's #indyref2 announcement for @BBCScotNine 1/9

Utterly disgusting behaviour. We stand with Neil, his family, and all journalists subject to abuse on social media.

Everyone here should be media-savvy enough to know that reporting what someone says is basic journalism. If you don't want those words reported, then use different words. If you want to criticise a publication or broadcaster - name them, and don't just blame 'media outlets'.
. @jasonleitch was asked a question about Christmas to which he responded with all the honesty I associate him with. This is now being twisted & misreported, not just in social media but by media outlets. His remarks were bad news but truthful & open and his abuse now is shameful

These are devastating cuts. Last year @DC_Thomson paid £24million to shareholders - this year it wants to make up a loss of £10m by sacrificing the jobs of hard working journalists. We will be defending our members at every possible stage.

Our strike today at the Scottish Reach titles was a resounding success - in some cases management were left without anyone in some departments. Our members are determined and resolute. But a few things to bear in mind [short thread] #nujreachstrike 1/6
