Jonathan Gullis repeatedly demanded my resignation in House of Commons education debates. He even offered to clear out my office at the NEU. Now he is no longer schools minister I am very happy to return the offer and to help him clear out his office at the DfE.

Thanks for your kind messages of support. The ridiculous personal attack on me in the Daily Mail today shows that our entirely reasonable demand that the government shows us their scientific basis for a safe re-opening of schools is the right demand.

Stunningly ill informed. Stunningly ill timed. Stunningly useless.

Why am I utterly unsurprised to now have it absolutely confirmed that Gavin Williamson was unfit to be Secretary of State for Education.

School leaders should simply ignore @BorisJohnson who has failed as a PM. Using school opening as a distraction from the Dominic Cummings disaster is a cynical ploy. Schools should open only when it is safe to do so. Keep your nerve and do the right thing.

Now I am really angry. I accept political positioning and posturing. I won’t accept lies. It is not the education unions standing in the way of catch up. It is the Treasury and @BorisJohnson empty words about ‘levelling up’.
Former education minister, now vaccines minister @nadhimzahawi, says teachers' unions are to blame for Sir Kevan Collins' not getting his education recovery plan because they "resisted extending the school day in the first place". I asked @MaryBoustedNEU, head of...

The govt. is, apparently, going to focus on getting ‘better’ teachers. Here’s the thing - they have the best teachers ever at the moment. The problem is that far too many leave because the same govt. has made teaching an almost impossible job.

So now we know. @GavinWilliamson opposed mask wearing wearing in schools because he ‘did not want to give an inch to the unions’. Evidenced decision making was, with him, always trumped by his warped sense of what would serve his political career. He was always unfit for office.

Make no mistake. Hunger on this scale is a direct result of this government’s policies cruelly implemented over 13 years in power. The damage done to families is incalculable. We need a general election now. And we should never forget.

I am on @bbclaurak tomorrow morning talking about the 12 year decline in teachers’ wages, the appalling effect this has had on teacher supply and why the @NEUnion is striking on Wednesday.

Where is @GillianKeegan ? Why is she not in the national media answering questions on the state of education and the teaching profession? Ignoring the united opposition of teacher and leader unions is not a sustainable option Gillian. Do your job. Negotiate.

40 thousand teachers left the profession in the last year. That’s 9% of teachers leaving before retirement. I really don’t think recruitment and retention is your strong point. Just saying……
Today, Labour are talking about recruiting more teachers, but what's their record? Since 2010 in Labour-run Wales, teacher numbers have fallen while numbers in Conservative-run England have risen by over 27,000 🧵THREAD: Labour are all talk and no substance 🥀👇 1/9

Has @GavinWilliamson succeeded in becoming even more unpopular with school staff than @michaelgove? It’s an achievement of sorts, I suppose......
