    This week is heavy here @NPR. The layoffs become real and we will lose colleagues who work so hard to put on our programming everyday. We don't know who will go but we know that everyone who is here now... we need them. Tough days ahead.

    The most stunning thing about all of the people coming into Poland from Ukraine…there are hardly any men. With Martial Law in Ukraine they have to stay behind. So women are juggling bags, babies, strollers and children as they (in some cases) walk into Poland.

    After dodging COVID all this time it finally got me in Ukraine. The pandemic is not top of mind for anyone here. People are in a war to save their country from a Russian invasion, thousands of civilians have been killed, the situation is dire.

    After a month reporting in beautiful, heartbreaking Ukraine, we crossed into Poland today. A young man in the same van as us breathed a sigh of relief when border guards accepted the exception paper he carried to allow him to cross despite the ban on 18-60 yr old men leaving.

    War is always so devastating, so unfair. While in Ukraine I thought often of working in Syria, in Iraq, Libya … doing stories on Yemen. The generations of children from these places, from Afghanistan, whose lives were upended by a war brought to them.

    Hey @DHSgov and @TSA when are you going to stop secondary screening me when I fly domestically, including writing down what I’m wearing? Also when are you going to stop questioning me upon entry into the U.S.? You know everything about my by now. It’s been a few years.
