Today, along with 2,000 other NIH employees, I had to clear out my office 😭
It was truly the honor of my life to work with such incredibly passionate people focused on improving human health.
I uprooted my life to move to MD, took on significant debt to make it happen, and now, just weeks later, I’m left without income, health insurance, or stability. If you’re able to, please consider donating a few bucks

For whatever it might be worth, there are people out there that double mask, are fully vaccinated and boosted, & avoid crowds. You don’t see us because we’re at home. Some even try to convince others to do so. I can’t begin to imagine the lunacy HC workers are experiencing!
I am 100% right there with you! Everyone from my rural hometown has known me all my life, knows I went to school forever and a day to study biology, etc. Any effort to convince them about COVID-19 is met with “you think you’re better than us just cause you got degrees.”
I put together a 50ish minute lecture on long-read sequencing technology covering:
1. Review of RNA-Seq Short-read Sequencing
2. Overview and benefits of Long-read Sequencing
3. @nanopore Sequencing
4. @PacBio Sequencing

I didn’t take it because I loved my new job and believed in the work we were doing. It’s illegal to terminate federal employees on probation without evidence of poor performance, which there was none. I didn’t realize folks would break the law to get rid of me.
I was having trouble at my office w/ birds smacking my windows. I taped a piece of copy paper on each pane & it hasn’t happened since. I sometimes wish humans would become extinct so everything else could have a chance. We don’t deserve this 🌎
I previously worked at the Genomics Education Partnership, which was supported, in part, by an NIH grant. I recently left that job to work at NIH, but was fired.
It’s a common misconception about federal workers. The majority of folks I worked w/ were in the office most days. Those that worked from home all the time had disabilities & were overwhelmingly veterans. WFH made it possible for them to still have jobs, which I highly support.
Fair question: I focused on cultivating future scientists by generating genomics & bioinformatics curriculum & training for middle school through college-level students & their teachers. My team also worked to educate clinicians & the public about using their genomic data.
