    City High community is heartbroken on the loss of rising senior, Emma Nugent, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. I do not have the right words. We are here to support Emma’s family. Staff stand ready to support all students. You are not alone. Reach out if you need help.

    It was perfectly ok to conduct extracurriculars all summer through today, but now must arbitrarily stop? We must allow kids all opportunities to the fullest extent we safely can. These kids have been responsible and safe— they deserve to keep going like the entire rest of state!

    Our City High family mourns the loss of 2019 graduate, John Geerdes, who died tragically in a motor vehicle accident. John was an amazing person, and a friend to all. Kind, smart, and strong. We love you, John. Our thoughts are with his great family. We stand behind you.

    City High is proud to announce that pending Board approval we have hired Mr. Shamari Scott as a Language Arts faculty member for next school year. Shamari is a City alum who is graduating from Loras with his teaching degree this May. Welcome home, Mr. Scott! @ShamariScott97

    I have tragic news to share. City High mourns the loss of Wegayewu Faris. Faris was a member of our evening custodial team. A kind, amazing person. He drowned saving the life of a young child. A hero. See article linked. Our thoughts are with his family.

    Let’s keep wearing our masks, Iowa. I had COVID, and it was miserable. Think of your neighbor who is elderly, has health issues, etc. Stick together for the greater good. Think of others and wear your mask! Vaccine is starting, let’s finish this thing strong and together!

    Congratulations to my friend and mentor, Coach Dan Sabers, on announcing retirement from coaching after 41 years on the staff at CHS, 19 as head coach. Coach is a champion and legend. I have never met anyone who loves our school and cares about kids more. Love you, Coach!
