I’m getting concerned that the damage from a storm system called “derecho” isn’t getting much national news coverage. THIS MATTERS. Why? Money and help follow news coverage. This isn’t a few trees down and the inconvenience of power out. It’s like a tornado hit whole counties.

THIS JUST IN👇👇👇 Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds' new Emergency Proclamation starting Sunday: 🚨ENDS MASK MANDATE 🚨NO LIMITS ON PUBLIC GATHERINGS 🚨RESTAURANTS CAN PACK BARS - NO LIMITS governor.iowa.gov/press-release/…

Iowa City passes mask mandate, in direct opposition to state law.

I’m 100% over people who are scared to help on derecho damaged neighborhoods because those neighborhoods are predominantly Black or Brown.

I mean this with the deepest respect, Tevin: please come here. Please see our destruction and agony. Do this before criticizing how we are trying to explain what it looks like to those outside Iowa who have no idea a humanitarian crisis exists following this weather event.
A derecho is not a land hurricane! Pass it along.

Sincere question here: Why did the Iowa Dept. of Ed (under Governor’s authority) mandate all districts submit 3 Return to Learn plans: one in person, one all virtual, and one a hybrid... if the virtual option is against the law and @IAGovernor Exec Order bans it too?

We had the winds of a category two hurricane. In Iowa. People are begging for help to refill their oxygen, to lift power lines off their driveways so they can leave their homes and search for food, most of the city of Cedar Rapids cannot dial 911 for help.

This is happening in Cedar Rapids. Now. People living in tents outside their decimated homes. #IowaDerecho #Iowahurricane
With many of their apartments destroyed, some residents of Terrace Ridge in SW Cedar Rapids are setting up tents for the night. Some of these people are climate refugees, driven from homes in Micronesia and other island nations

Breaking from AP: Federal judge decides schools in Iowa CAN mandate masks in schools. This is a temporary block of Iowa's law that bans mask mandates in schools. Last week a state judge upheld the state law when the mom suing the state asked for an injunction on the law. @kcrg

In the last year I’ve had four elected officials’ PR people ask me to change my reporting. GOP and Dem. All 4 admitted in the request that the facts were accurate. They still wanted me to make a change. I refused every time. One ensured I’d never get access again. Worth it.

Passed the test. Failed the interview. ‘Cause it’s not happening. Cancelled.
What’s in my hand? A swab. For a COVID-19 test ahead of interviewing President Trump. What should I ask him? #IowaDerecho #Iowahurricane

But this derecho has impacted many more people. And we’re barely getting a mention. Yes, we’re flyover country - I get it. But people are hurting and our infrastructure is shot. 20 schools buildings were damaged! The more eyes on this disaster the more help.

I've been in journalism for 23 years. I've never seen a political party refuse to allow journalists access like this on election day in this nation. WHAT IS HAPPENING
I was hoping to report on the @IowaGOP’s election night event. However, @KCRG was denied credentials. kcrg.com/2022/11/08/iow…
