I am deeply saddened by the death of a UNIFIL peacekeeper in southern Lebanon. My heartfelt condolences are with his family, loved ones and fellow peacekeepers at this tragic time. My thoughts are also with those injured in the attack, and I wish them a full recovery.

A UNIFIL peacekeeper died early this morning from critical injuries sustained when mortar shells struck his position near Marjayoun, southeastern Lebanon. Two other peacekeepers, who also sustained injuries, are being treated at a medical facility in the UNIFIL base.
