Scooped on breaking my own news🤣, but ... Happy to confirm that I have joined the @MIAA033 team in a liaison role working with tournaments, technology and media. I want to thank Dr. Bob Baldwin, @sbryantMIAA and staff for this incredible opportunity.
😃Welcome to our new staff! Steve, Jim, John, Yolanda, & Pam @In_The_Slot @AthleticsMG #GrowingCourageousLeaders

Is it just me, or was this Jarome Iginla being interviewed at a rest area during storm coverage and Ch. 25 might not have realized it? @NicoleOliverio

Trent Frederic, who was a widely criticized first-round pick in 2016, has more career goals than 15 of the 28 players drafted ahead of him, and 32 of the top 50 skaters overall that year.

A classic Friday afternoon holiday weekend "news dump" ... I wrote some words about my 21-year run in the sports department of the Boston Herald, which comes to an end Saturday. No regrets. Thank you to everyone for the support over the years.

Trent Frederic now has more career goals than 17 of the other 29 first-round picks from the 2016 NHL draft.

Seeing quite a few tweets saying spring HS sports are "never going to happen." a.) You might be right b.) But until someone (the governor) says otherwise, MIAA is doing what it can. c.) Is it really more important to say "I told you so" rather than give kids a shred of hope?

The MIAA did all that anyone could have asked today ... giving high school athletes the chance to have a winter season. It might not look how it did, or exactly how you want, but it's something. Be smart, be safe, be unselfish. Keep working together to make sure a season happens.

One last thought for tonight: If you were anywhere near Stoneham Arena and still believe HS hockey is dead, I don't know what to tell you. Gutsy, clutch performances. Incredible drama, fired up crowds. A HS-aged player isn't going to get that kind of environment anywhere else.

Important public service announcement: Casey Mittelstadt played high school hockey through his senior season in Minnesota. Drafted eighth overall by @BuffaloSabres ... now plays for Univ. of Minnesota. Currently tearing up the World Juniors.

Wow, Marchand’s pass to Bergeron for the SHG was No. 1 on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays, and Auston Matthews’ OT goal No. 3. Something happen this week that made the Worldwide Leader suddenly sit up and take notice of the NHL?

A thought: Since hockey “co-champions” lost their chance to play at the Garden, maybe the @NHLBruins can give teams a chance to be honored before or during a game, as the Red Sox do, and pose as a team on the ice with their trophy and banner. @MIAA033

Starting out in journalism, it would have been a goal to work for either Boston newspaper. Now I can say I have worked for both. I’m excited to be joining @BGlobeSports as a part-time multi-platform editor, and also helping out with @GlobeSchools and writing about HS hockey.

An update on a sudden and unexpected recent change in my career path. I buried the lede, but the last paragraph is key: Mental health is important ... take care of yourselves, and listen to what your body is telling you.

As someone who has covered HS hockey for nearly three decades, I have been a longtime avid reader of Hockey Night in Boston’s news and information. I am thrilled to be joining Gary and Jamie this season on a freelance basis, and look forward to being back “around the ponds.”
