It seems I'm always talking about death these days, but every time I think I'm done, someone else gets taken away. Sunday it was the kind, wry, supportive, smart, wonderful Chuck Verrill, @StephenKing's legendary editor and agent. I feel lucky to have had 17 years to know him.

I am very sad to share the news of another death: as reported recently online, Robert McGinnis, the great painter of book covers and movie posters and fine art, and a dear friend for over 20 years, died last month at the age of 99.

It broke my heart today to read of the death of Paul Auster, one of my favorite writers since reading the New York Trilogy in the late 80s. So many other great books since: THE MUSIC OF CHANCE, LEVIATHAN, MOON PALACE, 4321. Do yourself a favor and read him. He's worth it.

Just read HOLLY by our friend @StephenKing, and it's one hell of a good detective novel. Mystery readers should definitely check it out.

Finally got to the Strand and bought the book I’ve been aching to get. I’m reading it backwards, so started with “The Answer Man.” If you can read that story without tearing up, you’re made of stone.

A thousand congratulations to @JamesKestrel for winning the Edgar Award for Best Novel tonight, for the extraordinary FIVE DECEMBERS. So well deserved. I only wish the man could’ve been there in person to receive it. It was an honor to represent him.

One of our earliest books and still one of my all-time favorites, Ed McBain's THE GUTTER AND THE GRAVE, is on sale today in ebook form for just $1.99! Kindle, Nook, BookBub -- on sale everywhere, but I think just today and tomorrow. If you were thinking of reading it sometime...

It's going to be a long night. Sure, you could watch the news. But why not read a good book instead?

Just in! Advance copies of our big summer title, @vondoviak ’s raucous road trip across 1970s America. Two cousins from Texas, a truck full of stolen weed, a homicidal sheriff & dreams of glory that might just end in flames. An absolutely irresistible book.
