On @SandiToksvig and the petition to remove bishops from the House of Lords in which she draws comparisons with Iran - I normally stay out of Twitter debates but, for what it’s worth, as an Iranian now utterly amazed to find myself in Parliament, I feel bound to comment 🧵

Looks like the flight to Rwanda carrying asylum seekers will not take off, at least for now. “God grant us a quiet night and a perfect end.”

Lighting a candle to remember my brother, Bahram Dehqani-Tafti, who died 40 years ago today during the Revolution in Iran - a #martyr of the church in #Iran. Please pray for the small #Anglican community and all #Christians in Iran today.

    Replying to @Guli_FD
Many undoubtedly want bishops out of parliament. Others, however, disagree, including many leaders from other faith communities who know we often speak for them too. The final decision is way above my pay grade but while I’m there I’m committed to contributing as best I can.

This law and the Archbishop of Uganda’s support for it are truly disturbing. An important reminder that we live in a world where many still suffer persecution and are criminalised because of their sexuality.
“This legislation undermines the protections and freedoms of all Ugandans enshrined in the Ugandan Constitution.” churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2023/…

Today as I attend the #Coronation I remember too my late brother, giving thanks for his life and praying for Anglicans in Iran.
Bahram Dehqani-Tafti, son of the #Anglican bishop of #Iran & brother of @Guli_FD was murdered on this day in 1980. At Bahram's funeral, his father said this prayer, which Bishop @CottrellStephen called "one of the greatest testaments to the #Christian #faith that I've ever read"

When I left Iran in 1980 and sought refuge in England I never imagined I’d hear my own language used in a Church of England advert. Thank you 😊 @churchofengland @Justinwelby

Fifteen years today since my father died. Still much loved and missed, and remembered with gratitude.

Absolutely wonderful - I cannot fully express how over joyed I am by this news. My very best wishes to Nazanin and Richard and their family. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-607568…

With 2 clergy in the house and while self-isolating as a family we have celebrated a simple communion service. My teenage son wanted to know if there would be a sermon. “No”, I said. “Oh good”, he replied, “just the best bits then”!

A story of two families finally reunited. Undiminished joy but a journey of adjustment yet ahead. God bless each of them. #FreeNazanin #FreeAnoosheh
