When I was a statistics TA responsible for grading papers, if the final answer for math problems wasn't the right answer, I'd check through their work and give them partial credit based on how many steps they got right. Because... They deserve credit for the steps they get right.

If it's a password or a number, courts see that as you using your own knowledge to incriminate yourself; that's right, this is this a fifth amendment protection. If it's fingerprints or facial recognition, though, they can force you to unlock it, as that's considered different.
