A 🧵 For the last 9 months I’ve been working on creating something with my husband. No, not our children. But a series of local colouring books. And we are mapping our way right across the U.K. colouryourstreets.co.uk began in our own neighbourhoods of Brixton and Herne Hill in

This is not my Mary Whitehouse moment. I don’t give two hoots if Johnson has 56 kids. What I care about is why can’t he be honest about something so simple? As a judge ruled re his extramarital child in 2013 - this is a public interest matter when judging fitness for high office
“We still don’t know from Boris Johnson himself, whether he has five children or six… Why can’t he be more transparent?” Supporter @JohnnyMercerUK tells @Emmabarnett why Mr Johnson is “well within his rights“ not to talk about his private life, even though he wants to be PM.

EXCLUSIVE: Kate Bush joins me on @BBCWomansHour tomorrow-10am for a very rare broadcast interview; her first in response to her 1985 hit, Running Up That Hill, finally going to number 1, 37 years later. We talk #StrangerThings (of course) and a whole lot more… join us @BBCRadio4

Before my final @bbc5live show, I want to share this from Chris, a listener, in case it helps someone else. Every day there are lots of us. On air. Who can help you feel less alone. It’s called radio & is the greatest gift to anyone who hasn’t found it yet.A habit worth forming x

All I asked was why Mr Johnson couldn’t answer a simple question posed by @NickFerrariLBC 26 times about when a photo was taken. A time stamp. That’s it. And gutter press am I....
“It’s about a planted photo into a newspaper, and we need to now what tricks are going on and what the veracity of that is” Emma Barnett quizzes Tory MP Andrew Mitchell, who claims that asking about Boris Johnson’s “private life”, is a matter for the “gutter press” #newsnight

.@thesundaytimes reports only Radio3 & Radio 4 will survive under new govt rules. BBC will be forced to sell all other radio stations. Is that the same Radio 4 the government is currently boycotting in the morning? How will scrutiny of politicians work post 2027? Asking for a mate

Do you care if Boris Johnson, when a journalist, supplied a fellow journalist’s address to an old pal so that friend could have him beaten up? No journalist I know has done that. But then no journalist I know is presently trying to become Prime Minister.
Boris Johnson wants to become PM – so should he be addressing issues about his private life and moments from his past? Boris Johnson backer @JohnnyMercerUK is quizzed by @EmmaBarnett. “Does it bother you?” “This is private business…. This is 30 years ago”

Regardless of your political view - most regular people would expect there to be consequences if they had been found by the highest court in the land to have behaved unlawfully. At the very least - an apology to be issued. We now know Boris Johnson and his government will not.
    Replying to @nickeardleybbc
Gove not apologising and not saying government was wrong to prorogue Parliament #today

THREAD-Some news: After 3 very enjoyable years presenting Newsnight, I have made the decision to leave the programme. This is in part due to my role fronting Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, which I’m thrilled to say is reaching more listeners than ever, and I have many more plans for. 1/3

My last day tmrw on @bbc5live & I’m all at sea. In 4 yrs: 3 Prime Ministers, 2 elections,1 Brexit,1 proroguing,2 US presidents,1 pandemic. And the rest. It’s been magical & emotional.Feels like the eve of a breakup with the people radio is all about: the listeners. Aka my mates x
