    I’m honoured to share with you, the Ontario Legislature has unanimously passed my Keira’s Law Motion. Today is the first step forward for training of judges and other professionals in the court system in intimate partner violence and coercive control. #OakvilleNorth-#BurlON

    Breaking news! Today Bill 102 was granted Royal Assent. This means that Keira’s Law is now law in #Ontario mandating training on gender-based #IPV and coercive control for provincial court judges and justices of the peace. @forlittlekeira @MillcroftAD

    In Canada, a woman is murdered every 2.5 days. 50% are killed by intimate partners and 26% by family members. November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month. A time for us to listen to victims and take meaningful action. We must have zero tolerance for abuse and violence.

    Later today in the Ontario Legislature I am introducing a private members’ motion with the aim of protecting women & children. If passed, those in charge of keeping us safe will receive training to understand the signs and forms of intimate partner violence and coercive control.

    Last week, the Senate passed #KeirasLaw mandating training for federal judges on IPV and coercive control. Ontario must also do its part, with judges and other legal professionals in family courts. We must work to better protect women and girls escaping abusive relationships.
