For the past 7 years, StateHouse was a residence for me and my family but I never took it for granted that I would not take my last stroll in these grounds one day; and yesterday, I did. But I did it with a sense of honour that I did my part, just like the 5 presidents before me.

6th President of the Republic of Zambia.
- Today the President-elect Mr Hakainde Hichilema has been sworn in as our seventh Republican President. This is a momentous occasion for our country, and we all must be proud for letting the torch of our democracy to shine for the world to see.
- Earlier today President-elect Mr Hakainde Hichilema and I held a meeting together with the Commonwealth Chief Observer, the former Tanzanian President, @jmkikwete and AU Chief election Observer, former Sierra Leone President @ebklegacy. We remain committed to putting Zambia first
- Countrymen, women and youth, Six years ago, you entrusted me to lead you on a journey to build our country after the death of His excellency, President Sata. This show of trust that I lead you in January, 2015 was unexpected and I accepted it with humility and gratefulness.
- “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” Num 6:24-26 This is my prayer for Zambia today as we enter a new chapter politically.

- I wish to condemn the ongoing violent attacks against foreigners in RSA. Attacks of this nature calls for urgent concerted measures by the South African Govt and regional bodies. I appeal to our South African brothers and sisters to embrace the spirit of Ubuntu during this time
