I'm devastated by the loss of my dear friend, colleague and mentor @PeteSalama, and heartbroken for his family. The global public health community has lost one of our best - a true leader who inspired with his curiosity, openness and professionalism. Pete is irreplaceable.
The WHO family is grieving over the sudden passing of Dr Peter Salama, @WHO Executive Director, Universal Health Coverage – Life Course.

Preparedness is key. Vaccination of health workers against #Ebola continues in Rwanda. 500+ health & frontline workers have been vaccinated. Uganda & South Sudan also vaccinating, along with enhancing surveillance, diagnostic services, community engagement, clinical care & IPC.

Following another senseless attack on civilians in eastern #DRC on Wednesday, #Ebola response operations were suspended in Beni and disrupted in Butembo today. This is a double tragedy for the civilians there, as gains against Ebola could be lost if this violence continues.
Deeply troubled by developments in #DRC. We have seen these violent events not only traumatize communities and responders but also expand the #Ebola outbreak. Our teams cannot reach contacts or potential patients when access is limited.

In #DRC with our incredible #Ebola response colleagues working with partners and local health workers. Concrete progress in places like Mangina/Mabalako and Beni but still have active transmission in Mambasa, Mandima, Oicha and Komanda.
