    There are currently zero cases of #Ebola in #DRC after over a year of fighting this outbreak. So proud of all involved in the response. We are hopeful, yet cautiously optimistic that we will soon bring this outbreak to an end.

    Tonight, I light a candle to #RememberHealthHeroes we have tragically lost to #COVID19, many who were nurses. There are many nurses in my life. They include family, friends, colleagues & mentors. I am proud of them & their selfless work. It's our duty to protect & value them.

    New medicines must be tested & be in line with ethical & scientific standards. We caution countries against adopting products that have not undergone rigorous clinical trials to ensure their safety & effectiveness against #COVID19. One fight.

    Yesterday @WHO & @AfricaCDC launched a new network of labs in #Africa that will work on genome sequencing for #COVID19. This is very significant. It will help us track the evolution of the virus, to better develop vaccines & treatments tailored to African populations.

    Rwanda🇷🇼 just received first batch of 240,000 #COVID19 Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines through #COVAX! Another batch of vaccines expected later today. This is part of groundbreaking efforts by COVAX to deliver close to 2 billion COVID-19 vaccines globally in 2021. #VaccinEquity 👏🏿

    The majority of #Africa’s health workers are still missing out on vaccines and remain dangerously exposed to severe #COVID19 infection. Unless our doctors, nurses and other frontline workers get full protection we risk a blowback in the efforts to curb this disease.

    It's been a landmark week for Africa! #COVAX has delivered almost 12 million #COVID19 vaccine doses in 17 African countries🇦🇴🇨🇮🇩🇯🇨🇩🇬🇲🇬🇭🇰🇪🇱🇸🇱🇷🇲🇼🇲🇱🇳🇬🇷🇼🇸🇹🇸🇳🇸🇩🇺🇬 & 6 countries have begun vaccinating. We are on-ground supporting countries turn vaccine roll-out plans into action.

    I’m deeply saddened and shocked about the sudden passing of Dr Faustine Ndugulile, @WHOAFRO Regional Director-elect. It’s an immense loss. My entire team @WHOAFRO and I send our sincere & heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, the government and the people of Tanzania.
