Huge turnout at @BetoORourke’s Rally for Reproductive Freedom! Just as your vote is foundational to democracy, so too is your bodily autonomy for there can be no self governance without self determination. We must elect #Beto! #txlege

Attended peaceful protests against VietNam War at UT in 1970s where I was maced. My husband was beaten and arrested. Students are directly impacted by war/international conflict and have every right to speak out. Their voices are critical in shaping policy impacting their future.
At least 40 people were arrested Monday at an encampment on the south lawn of UT Austin's campus, according to George Lobb, an attorney who helped coordinate the release of protesters arrested last week. l8r.it/ZJgU

Abbott says he will never raise property taxes because state has no authority over property taxes. But that also means he can't claim to lower property taxes. #txlege #TXGovDebate

"Some 2,200 infants died in Tx in 2022, an increase of 227 deaths, or 11.5%, over the previous year. Infant deaths caused by severe genetic & birth defects rose by 21.6%. That spike reversed a nearly decade-long decline. Between 2014-2021, infant deaths had fallen by nearly 15%."
Texas’ abortion restrictions – some of the strictest in the country – may be fueling a sudden spike in infant mortality cnn.it/3NSwrOU

As a lifelong Texan, vegetarian cattle rancher, & big-hair Texas woman down to my roots (pun intended), I don’t need someone from Canada mansplaining what it means to be Texan.
Ted Cruz said a Beto O’Rourke win would help make Texas “just like California, right down to tofu and silicon and dyed hair.” txst.us/2oWyI0t

1/2 Don't mess with Texas Public Schools! Taxpayer-funded vouchers will drain public dollars from our severely under-funded public schools. Truth is, Texas is more than $4,000 below the national average of per-student funding. #TxLege should be focusing on fully funding (cont.)

Why don't we organize a Day Without Trump where no one pays him any attention or responds to his outrageous tweets. If that works, we can then have a Week Without Trump, a Month Without Trump, a Year Without Trump...a Presidency Without Trump.

Want to reduce property taxes? Beto has a plan. Increase housing. Require sales price disclosure. Require state cover 50% cost of public education. Bring our federal income tax dollars back to Texas to pay for uninsured. Legalize & tax marijuana. #SolutionsNotStunts #txlege
What if instead of having a governor who’s focused on stunts that jack up inflation, we had a governor who’s focused on solutions that reduce your property taxes. amp.star-telegram.com/news/business/…

"Abbott's executive order must be seen for what it is. A politically driven, anti-vaccine policy, that threatens to make people more sick from COVID-19." bit.ly/2YWGg8w #txlege

Can’t believe this is the big 7-0, but here I am! I hear it’s the new 50! Thanks for all good wishes. Got in my annual 10 mile birthday run, tho after the regular & 3 special #txlege sessions, my run also included some power walking. Lots to reflect on, much to be grateful for.

The State of Texas still “celebrates” Confederate Heroes Day—which falls today—the day after MLK Day. The “holiday” had no place in Texas when it was created in 1973 & it has no place now. This state holiday glorifies the Confederacy & obscures our shameful but very real history.
