Nothing junior about leading an arrest team. Nothing junior about looking after the entire hospital overnight. Nothing junior about deliviring life-saving treatment. This is a welcome change, part of the cultural shift towards greater respect towards the profession.

Huge turnout for @TheBMA consultants at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Consultants have lost over a third of their pay in real terms and they are not worth a penny less. They put their lives at risk during the pandemic, yet are rewarded with further pay cuts. We must support them.

Doctors' assistants are earning almost 47% more than a fully qualified doctor in London. Even with full pay restoration, doctors would still be earning less than their assistants. Paying doctors £22.67/hr would still be a bargain for this country.

Both my parents are consultant doctors. Growing up, I watched them constantly work overtime and not get paid a single penny. Not once was their overtime work properly acknowledged. Now when a minority of doctors are getting paid their overtime worth, the vicious attacks begin.

Despite all the noise about student loans, Mr Streeting didn’t seriously raise it once in the negotiating room. Instead, he chose to brief the media. He could prevent these strikes today by paying doctors £22.67/hr.

England is 40,000 doctors short of the EU average. Yet fully qualified doctors are unemployed, some driving Uber to get by. Waiting lists remain at record highs while government policy blocks doctors from working. This is political failure on an industrial scale.

While you are waiting over 12 hours to be seen by a Doctor in AnE, doctors are searching for work unemployed. 14 doctors are applying for 1 AnE training job. 1000s of doctors are ready to work to reduce the waiting list and wait times. This is a complete failure of the system.

It is a joke that Labour is seriously considering bringing back PFIs. Reminder: With the last set of PFIs, we got £13bn of investment but had to pay £80bn to private contractors. This is just such a bad idea and would lock us in debt for years to come.

Labour voters are breaking ranks from this Labour government. This is a government that goes after pensioners, the disabled and now doctors. The Labour government has been dangerous and destructive to allow this strike to go ahead. Pay docs 22.67£/hr and strikes are off.
