Kathryn, who is a Doctors Assistant on @NCICNHS's Hazel Ward (Surgical Admissions), spent a night shift with me to develop her clinical skills. Her role is dual clinical and admin and helps support the various specialities on the ward. She loves utilising her clinical skills πŸ©ΈπŸ’‰

The Doctors Assistant role is Agenda for Change Band 3. NOT a Physician Associate. They assist the teams by preping ward round documents, making and chasing referrals, ordering bloods (requested by teams). Their clinical skills are limited to venuputure and cannulation. (2/3)

One for the lads! Did you know that in the UK, only 11% of registered nurses identify as male. It's not often I'm accompanied by male student nurses, but a few weeks back, Louis joined me for a shift to advance his clinical skillsπŸ©ΈπŸ’‰πŸ“Ÿ

All this eases the pressures for Foundation Doctors, which allows them to attend training, theatre, clinics etc without having an impact on patient care whilst enhancing their development. Drs Assistants have a clear scope of practice (3/3)

We had a Student Paramedic join the Hospital at Night team for the 1st time this week! πŸš‘ Becky, who is a Year 3 student with @uocparamedics, did 2 nightshifts with me and practised her cannulation skills and got a flavour of in-hospital care. Joy working with you πŸ₯πŸ˜πŸ’‰

This is staff nurse Johnny who works on Willow A at CIC. Originally from Ghana, Johnny is one of many international nurses working at @NCICNHS. He's a skilled and caring nurse and is a pleasure to work with when on nights. To hear more about his story: ncic.nhs.uk/news/trust-cel…

A patient at @NCICNHS, who had never had any hospital admissions previously, told me when I was cannulating him this morning that he was so proud of the @NHSuk and was really humbled by it all. He praised staff looking after him and the other patients. This is why I do my job 😊
