I played rugby for almost 30 years, and most of my senior rugby on the wing and full back. I've coached rugby for nearly 30 years too.
I cannot think that putting a foot out when catching a high ball is a good thing.
It has to be discouraged.

Initiations at uni sport are going to kill sport for many youngsters.
I'm old. I can't stop it happening.
I don't think the unis can.
What can be done?
Thought this was a significant moment. Shows England can be a bit more ambitious early in an attacking sequence after recovering Youngs' kick (a la France). Earl > Smith > Ford > Lawrence and the ball is across the pitch into space. This was how Tigers developed, too.
Congratulations any coach who posted NOTHING about their score, or even a hint. Ninja status for those who posted something about the quality of the food, referee, parents' praise, or the smiles.
High tackles - try refereeing a game with no touch judges and then making "marginal" calls on what is a high tackle or not.
It's very tough in real time and you don't always have a clear angle.
This was me with U14s today. Sympathy to any referee.
"Sometimes a drill is a safe space for a learner when they need some support. The chaos of a game can lose them and fail to create confidence.
"In rugby, tackling, contact and even just some introductory ideas can be best developed in a low stakes drill".

After watching a grassroots game: "Well played lads, plenty of endeavour"
After watching an international: "It was a boring game, not enough of this, too much of that, the refeee was this, the coach was that"
Do we need to adjust our lenses?
